Family of jailed former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb has met with the President of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
His wife Mariyam Nashwa and attorney Moosa Siraj met with Aminath Eanas on Wednesday.
An official from HRCM said that the former VP’s shared concerns regarding his health issues, as well as the delay in providing the adequate treatment.
The official said that both parties had to come to an agreement in certain matters, but declined to comment further on the subject.
The issue was submitted to HRCM in May 2017, expressing concern over his deteriorating health condition.
Officials from HRCM met with Adeeb in June 2017, and said that they were reviewing the case filed by his family. Earlier in June, Adeeb’s family had released a statement claiming that Adeeb has developed an internal cyst, kidney stones, and vision impairment from glaucoma since his incarceration in 2015.
His family also accused the state of negligence in failing to provide Adeeb with adequate medical care during his isolated incarceration.
The former VP was sentenced to a total of 33 years in prison, on multiple charges of graft and terrorism.
