In a recent operation targeting illegally parked vehicles, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) towed more than 100 vehicles from the streets of the capital Malé City and Hulhumalé over a two-day period.
Statistics released by the police show that a total of 142 vehicles were towed on Wednesday and Thursday, with 91 vehicles removed from Malé and 51 from Hulhumalé.
The majority of the impounded vehicles were two-wheeled, with 121 motorcycles and scooters towed over the two days, while 21 four-wheeled vehicles were also removed.
An analysis of the vehicles towed from Hulhumalé reveals that illegal parking was the primary cause, accounting for 41 vehicles.
In addition to this, seven vehicles were towed for operating without a valid license, one vehicle for dangerous driving and one for driving with altered registration numbers.
In parallel with these towing actions, police issued traffic fines to 20 vehicles in Hulhumalé during the same period.
