MP Falah falsely claims former gov’t only laid foundations without completing projects
Falah claimed the previous MDP government left four to five billion MVR in unpaid debts with only one billion settled
Falah stated the 2026 budget was prepared considering global economic factors including the Russia-Ukraine war and European economic shifts
He claimed the previous government undertook no development work

Parliamentary Group Leader of the main ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) and MP for Inguraidhoo constituency Ibrahim Falah has made false assertions that former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration did nothing beyond laying foundations for projects.

During Monday’s parliamentary sitting, Falah claimed that over the past five years, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) carried out all its work on credit and failed to pay contracted parties. He alleged that of the four to five billion Maldivian Rufiyaa owed, only about one billion Maldivian Rufiyaa had been settled.

He went on to claim that the previous government undertook no development work and merely laid foundations without completing any projects.

Falah also said the 2026 state budget has been prepared effectively and argued that itemizing specific amounts is unnecessary, asserting that knowledgeable presidents and finance ministers draft budgets in this way.

He further maintained that the 2026 budget was formulated with significant consideration for the global economic climate, including economic shifts in several European countries, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the impact of recent U.S. immigration measures.
