The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has announced the launch of the FAM Awards, set to begin with the 2025/2026 football season. The decision marks a significant step toward revitalizing Maldivian football and recognizing excellence within the sport.
The initiative, introduced under the leadership of newly elected FAM President Ahmed “Tom” Thoriq, aims to boost the competitive spirit in Maldivian football, celebrate talent, and acknowledge the contributions of individuals and clubs across various levels of the game.
FAM has confirmed that awards will be presented in 11 categories, with the Best Football Player award being one of the most anticipated. This particular category will honor the top three performers of the season.
The introduction of the FAM Awards aligns with Tom’s broader promise to restore the lost passion for football in the Maldives. Since assuming office in July, he has emphasized the need to inject new energy into the domestic football scene, which has long struggled with stagnation and lack of momentum.
The upcoming FAM Awards are expected to not only celebrate achievement but also serve as a platform to inspire players, coaches, referees, and clubs to strive for excellence in the new season.
