Fenaka Corporation, previously criticized for lacking the capacity to handle water and sewerage projects, has now been assigned to construct a mosque in Nellaidhoo island of Haa Dhaal atoll.
The assignment of the mosque project to Fenaka was revealed during the groundbreaking ceremony of the new mosque in Nellaidhoo island, as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's ongoing tour of Haa Dhaal atoll.
The previous administration had assigned water and sewerage projects to Fenaka, but President Muizzu's administration had earlier stated that Fenaka was not capable of implementing water and sewerage projects.
However, during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's tour of Haa Dhaal atoll, the foundation stone for the mosque was laid by the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, during a ceremony held on the island on Monday. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and several state ministers participated in Monday’s ceremony.
The mosque planned for construction in Nellaidhoo island will have a capacity of 500 people. Upon completion, the mosque will be equipped with solar panels and air conditioning. It will also include a library and a classroom.
