A man arrested in connection with the seizure of more than four kilograms of suspected narcotics in the capital Malé City, has been remanded in custody for 15 days.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) on Thursday revealed that the arrest was made as part of an ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and distribution, led jointly by the Counter Narcotics Intelligence Unit and the Drug Enforcement Department. The operation took place on July 23 in Malé and involved searches of two residences in the Galolhu district.
According to police, suspected drugs were discovered in one of the properties during the coordinated search.
The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Muaviyath Ahmed from Nilandhoo island of Gaaf Alif atoll, was taken into custody in connection with the case. He was later presented before the court, which granted a 15-day remand as investigations continue.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the specific type of drugs seized but confirmed that further forensic analysis and investigative procedures are ongoing.
