Shaneez “Shanko” Hashim, who worked in the forefront of the main ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), has left the party, stating that there is no fair treatment for ordinary citizens in PNC.

Shaneez was a prominent figure in PNC and was the party's candidate for the South Hulhumalé constituency in the parliamentary elections.

Since July 5, Shaneez has been taking to social media platform ‘X’. expressing dissatisfaction with the inequality within the party and highlighting that in the coming days, things would turn out as he hoped, and he would move forward without any regrets. Further, during the ongoing debate about the new terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) on July 8, he posted that one government might start a project, and another government might complete it. He stated that this was normal and that no one should seek or be given credit for it, emphasizing that governments come to serve the people.

Later, in a post on Sunday night, Shaneez said he decided to distance himself from PNC because he no longer believes that the party creates a fair space for ordinary people. He added that he would not compromise his principles and values to please those in power.

While his departure from the PNC appears to reflect dissatisfaction with the government and senior officials, he has not publicly disclosed a specific reason for his decision.
