Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has expressed his condolences on the passing of Yoosuf Alsan Mohamed, the only child of renowned singers Mariyam Ashfa and Mohamed “Theyrava” Abdul Ghani.
Alsan passed away at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) while receiving treatment following an accident that occurred around 8:15pm on Sunday near the Maafannu Bus Terminal.
The accident occurred when Alsan, speeding at the time, lost control of the motorcycle, struck a pedestrian at a zebra crossing, and then collided with an oncoming pickup truck.
In his condolence message posted on social media platform ‘X’, the former president stated that he shares in the grief of the family and offers his sympathies on the tragic accident that claimed the life of Yoosuf Alsan Mohamed. He prayed for Allah to grant mercy on the deceased's soul and patience to the family. Solih also wished for a speedy recovery for those injured in the accident and urged everyone to be mindful of road safety.
In addition to Alsan, a 16-year-old and a 40-year-old were also injured in the accident.
Former Vice President Faisal Naseem also took to ‘X’ to express deep sorrow following the tragic death of a 17-year-old in a road accident in Malé City on Sunday night. He extended heartfelt condolences to the victim's family, prayed for the deceased to be granted Jannah, and wished a swift recovery for those injured. Naseem also highlighted the alarming rise in road accidents, stating that they continue to bring pain and grief to many families. He stressed the urgent need for this issue to be addressed as a national priority.
The funeral prayer for Alsan will be held at the Aasahara Mosque after Asr prayer on Monday.
Alsan, 17, was the only child of famous singers Ghani and Ashfa.
Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
