The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has reported that a man has been arrested for stealing more than MVR 100,000 from a house in the congested capital, Malé City.
The police institution revealed that a complaint was filed on Monday night regarding a safe that was stolen from a house in Mahchangoalhi-ward of Malé City.
In connection with the case, after reviewing CCTV footage as part of the investigation, the suspect believed to have stolen the safe was arrested around 11:05pm on Tuesday from Maaveyo Magu.
The police institution went on to reveal that when the suspect was arrested and searched, they found money believed to have been stolen from the safe, as well as a mobile phone thought to have been purchased with some of the stolen money.
The person arrested in connection with the case has been identified as Ismail Saaif, 39 from Alifushi island of Raa atoll.
Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
