The Zakat House has revealed that MVR 1.7 million was allocated from the Zakat Fund for medical treatment last April.

According to statistics released by the Zakat House, a total of MVR 1,725,631.51 was allocated from the Zakat Fund for medical assistance in April. Of this, the Zakat House says that MVR 1,142,696.29 was spent as aid for 111 individuals in total.

MVR 506,458.64 was disbursed for mental illnesses, MVR 301,075.50 for cancer, MVR 54,240.50 for heart diseases, MVR 50,886 for transplants, MVR 40,324 for kidney diseases, and MVR 772,646.87 for other illnesses.

In addition to this, the Zakat House said that MVR 42,500 was spent as aid for those in dire circumstances due to special situations. Also, MVR 62,052 was spent from the ‘Ibn Sabeel’ category to help those stranded in the Maldives and abroad to overcome their predicaments.

The Zakat House has also made significant expenditures from the ‘Fi Sabilillah’ category.

In this regard, during April, MVR 157,827.10 was spent on Quran memorization and spreading Quranic knowledge, while MVR 578,460 was spent on book translations. Furthermore, MVR 300,836.07 was spent on conducting various religious programs.

According to the reports released by the Zakat House for January, February, March, and April, a total of 370 individuals have received assistance from the fund in the first quarter of this year. The statistics show that more than MVR two million has been spent on medical assistance for the poor in the first quarter.
