Interviews have been conducted with all candidates who applied for the position of Police Commissioner (CP).
For the opportunity opened by the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology to apply for the position of Commissioner of Police, Acting Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, former Acting CP Farhad Fikry, and South Police Commander Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Shameem applied for the position.
RaajjeMV understands that the marks obtained from interviewing the candidates for the position were sent to the home ministry last week. It has also been reported that a person will be appointed to the position after the ongoing Eid holidays.
The position of Commissioner of Police became vacant after Ali Shujau, who held the position earlier, resigned. He resigned on April 26, due to some family responsibilities and in connection with the criticisms that arose regarding the investigation of the incident where 21-year-old Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed fell from the ninth floor of a building in the capital city and sustained life-threatening injuries on the morning of April 18.
After Shujau's resignation, the management of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) was initially entrusted to Deputy Commissioner Farhad Fikry. However, as public criticism was directed at him, the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology reversed the decision shortly after and temporarily assigned the position to Deputy Commissioner Ismail Naveen.
