Several inconsistencies have been identified in the CCTV footage publicized in connection with the incident in which Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, 21, “fell” from H. Fentenoy onto the roof of an adjacent house on the morning of April 18.
During a press conference held at the Maldives Police Service (MPS) Headquarters on April 24, the CCTV footage of the incident was shown on Live TV, and several people have been expressing concerns regarding the matter.
Many people have been saying that the CCTV footage shown by the police was heavily edited and that the time was not visible in some scenes.
Among the numerous discrepancies observed in the video, a man in a T-shirt is seen interacting with a woman in the stairwell. The two appear to be conversing, after which the man gestures toward her, indicating for her to "go up." The woman then seems to respond with a gesture, as if asking, "shall we go?”.
She is subsequently seen heading up, followed by the man.
Next, the man is seen waiting on the seventh floor after the woman goes up. However, the footage does not display any time stamps, leaving the timing of the scene unclear. According to the police, the man was waiting there after knocking on the door. During this time, he is observed checking his phone.
In the footage released by the police institution, the next sequence shows the man attempting to access the terrace for the first time. When the door doesn’t open, he tries again, then briefly disappears from view. Shortly after, he is seen entering the house through the same door, adjusting his belt. He is then observed looking out the stairwell window.
4:51 minutes into the footage, the man is seen attempting to enter the elevator, then going upstairs at 4:52, before descending again at 4:53. He enters the elevator once more, where he is observed adjusting his slippers. When he exits the elevator at 5:05, he has one slipper on. After adjusting his belt, he is seen looking through the stairwell window while heading downstairs, and the sound of him calling out to the woman is also heard.
He is then seen exiting the building, walking back and forth on the street. He also approaches the neighboring house and looks up.
The police have said that house is not related to the two of them. However, from their behavior, it is noticeable that there are other people involved.
Further, it has also been noted from the scenes visible in the CCTV footage that the two were not in an intoxicated or disoriented state.
Therefore, many people are saying that there was no situation there that would require the female to jump out of the window on her own.
The police have stated that the footage reflects the events of the night, and that further investigations into certain aspects of the case is still underway. However, many continue to believe that there are still numerous hidden details yet to be uncovered.
