Mohamed “Madulu” Waheed, who rendered many services to the Dhivehi language and literature, has passed away.
He passed away while receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). RaajjeMV understands that he passed away following a period of illness.
Mohamed Waheed, who received the Public Service Award in 1985, is a person who received the 2019 National Award of Honor for his contributions to the advancement of Dhivehi writing.
Mohamed Waheed was a talented person who was notable in the field of writing. During his school days, he was mostly known by the name Hoarafushi Waheed. He was a person who maintained an interest in writing about visible scenes and audible sounds without any concealment.
He is a person who received training in writing for radio, news writing from India, England, and Yugoslavia.
Looking at his writing, his work includes translations from English to Dhivehi. In addition to this, he had brought to the public, powerful writings depicting social issues and unusual difficult situations faced by people.
Mohamed Waheed was also a person who continuously brought international news for 10 years starting from 1973.
Further, he had spent more than 35 years in government service starting from 1966.
