President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has indicated hopeful solutions to the housing issues facing the residents of Kudahuvadhoo island of Dhaal atoll.

On Sunday night, while meeting with the people of the island, President Muizzu indicated that he would bring hopeful solutions to the housing issues faced by the island community.

Speaking to the island community, President Muizzu stated that while people are facing difficulties in building houses on their private plots in different areas of the island, opportunities will be opened for residents to apply for a three-bedroom house on their private land as part of the 500 housing units project planned for Kudahuvadhoo.

He added that flats will be built for the remaining number after meeting a certain limit of those who wish to build houses on their private land.

Highlighting that Kudahuvadhoo is an exemplary island that has achieved remarkable success in population consolidation and development, the president noted that there are some minor issues in population and development consolidation and assured the community that permanent and quick solutions will be sought for these matters as well.

Shedding light on the agreement signed to develop a commercial port in Kudahuvadhoo, the president described the Kudahuvadhoo Commercial Port project as a very suitable and reasonable project from a regional perspective.

The president went on to note that along with the signed agreement, all other matters will proceed, and he assured that within this presidential term, this commercial port will be developed and demonstrated to the public as a fully operational port in its most complete form.

In his speech, he also highlighted the work being carried out by the government for the development of the island. As such, the president noted that the country’s national bank, Bank of Maldives (BML) is extending significant cooperation to the government in making the policy of bringing banking services closer to the people a reality.

He also assured that USD ATM services will be available in Kudahuvadhoo before the end of the year. Speaking about Kudahuvadhoo's urban development, the president said that the harbor project is one of the most important projects, and the expansion of the harbor capacity is a sustainable project that is important not only for fishermen and businesses but also for the general public.

Muizzu assured that the practical work of the project would begin soon. In addition to this, while Kudahuvadhoo is one of the urban centers being developed in seven regions across the Maldives, the president has said that WAMCO will begin waste management services in the island before the end of July 2025.

The president said there are many tasks that need to be completed for the development of Kudahuvadhoo in terms of education and sports.

Muizzu has given assurance that the physical work of the Indoor Sports Complex will commence within this year.

With the commencement of the projects, he noted that the promises made for the island would be fulfilled, and in addition to those promises, he has also indicated that other necessary developments will be carried out to develop the island as an urban center. Thus, he said that the hospital project is also such a project.
