Saturday's by-elections were held across 12 islands

The candidate representing the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has won the battle for the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) seat in Hangnaameedhoo island of Alif Dhaal atoll, against the candidate from the main ruling People’s National Congress (PNC).

The by-election for the WDC seat in Hangnaameedhoo island of Alif Dhaal atoll was held on Saturday. Safa Abdul Raheem from the main ruling party and Khadheeja Ibrahim from the main opposition party vied for the seat.

Khadheeja won the by-election with a difference of 47 votes. According to the provisional results from the ballot box placed at Hangnaameedhoo School, Khadheeja received 111 votes. Safa received 82 votes. In addition to this, the results from the ballot box placed in the capital Malé City show that Khadheeja received 47 votes, while Safa received 29 votes.

Khadheeja led in both ballot boxes.
