The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has consulted with Housing Development Corporation (HDC)'s Managing Director Mohamed Mauroof Jameel regarding the investigation into the Gedhoruveriyaa and Binveriyaa schemes.

The police institution revealed that HDC's MD Mauroof met with the Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau on Tuesday. MPS also highlighted that the meeting was held as an introductory meeting following the MD’s recent appointment to the position.

MPS noted that during Tuesday’s meeting, discussions were held regarding the ongoing investigation into the Gedhoruveriyaa and Binveriyaa schemes.

The police have been investigating the case of HDC selling land illegally. While the company's board has been suspended in connection with the scandal that unfolded recently, the former MD of the company, Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed resigned amid mounting pressure. In addition to this, the passports of some individuals have been withheld as well.

In connection with the police investigation into the Binveriyaa scheme and Gedhoruveriyaa scheme, some employees of HDC have also been dismissed from their positions.
