Two people were arrested on 28 November 2024, in connection with the car arson case.

They are Khalid Mahmood, 35 and Hassan Naseem, 31 and native to Maamigili island of Alif Dhaal atoll. On 29 November 2024 the Criminal Court ordered their remand for 15 days. Afterwards, upon the expiration of the detention period, when they were brought to court on 13 December 2024 the court ordered an additional 15 days of detention.

The court order states that it is believed the car was set on fire following a dispute between two parties.
