More than 30 warehouses storing hazardous chemicals have been inspected as part of a special operation launched to ensure that chemical storage and trading facilities comply with the established regulations.

‘Operation Hiraas Faas’ roughly translated ‘Operation Danger Check’ is being carried out through October 15.

As part of the special operation, efforts will be made to raise public awareness about the established regulations on the import and storage of chemicals.

As part of the operation, authorities will be conducting visits on chemical storage and trading facilities to ensure they are operating in accordance with set regulations.

Further, they will be identifying easily flammable locations and associated risks in the Greater Malé Region.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) revealed that the operation is progressing very smoothly and that in the first three days, inspection teams examined 347 residential buildings.

Further, the teams inspected and gathered information from 31 hazardous chemical warehouses and 24 outlets involved in the trade of hazardous chemicals.

Officers from the MNDF Fire and Rescue Service, MNDF Malé Area Command and the Maldives Police Service (MPS) are participating in this operation.

The operation is being conducted amid past incidents of dangerous fires at such warehouses.
