Speaker of the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana has paid a courtesy call on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The Sri Lankan Speaker called on the Maldivian president at the President’s Office on Tuesday.

Welcoming the Sri Lankan Speaker to the island nation, Muizzu shed light on the long-standing friendly ties between the two neighboring countries.

Discussions at the meeting saw the Maldivian leader expressing his desire to observe a peaceful presidential election that yield positive results to pave the path for the continued development and prosperity of Sri Lanka.

Diplomatic relations were established between Maldives and Sri Lanka on 26 July 1965.

Maldives established diplomatic ties with the neighboring country immediately after gaining independence.
