An individual accused of assaulting someone with a dangerous weapon, has been remanded.

Ahmed Rabeeu, 26 and native to Maamendhoo island of Gaaf Alif atoll, was arrested for being involved in a gang violence on the day of Eid-al-Fitr on 2022 and using a dangerous weapon to assault an individual.

The gang violence took place in the intersection of Janavaree Magu and Majeedhee Magu in the capital, Malé City.

His remand was sought by the Maldives Police Service (MPS).

The Criminal Court order revealed that the 26-year-old Maldivian man is to be remanded until the investigation stage concludes and the case is filed at the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office).

He has been remanded at a custodial prison.

The court order states that sufficient evidence has been submitted against him, to prove the need for his remand.

The condition of remand has been defined in view of Article 49 of the Constitution of Maldives and Section 16(b) of the first amendment bill (Act No. 41/2024) to the Prevention of Intimidation and Possession of Dangerous Weapons and Sharp Objects Act.

According to the authorities, the accused was arrested as per the procedure and in accordance with the legal mandate.
