The shore protection project initiated in Kunburudhoo island of Alif Dhaal atoll has wrapped up.

This was revealed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) on Wednesday.

As such, taking to X to provide the latest updates of the Kunburudhoo shore protection project to public, MTCC revealed that they have successfully completed the project.

Under the scope of the project, MTCC conducted dredging and reclamation operations in an area measuring 24,000 cubic meters.

Further, a 430-meter rock boulder revetment was also constructed as part of the project.

The project entailed the construction of a geotube revetment measuring 185 meters and beach replenishment operations in an area measuring 7,171 cubic meters as well.

The Kunburudhoo shore protection project was valued at MVR 21.14 million.

Nestled in Alif Dhaal atoll, Kunburudhoo island is an attractive little island with a population of about 640.

The island community mostly depends on the tourism sector to earn a living, with several of the island’s youth being employed in resorts.

The issue of soil erosion has been an issue faced by the island community for a long time, which has threatened to spoil the beauty of the island’s beach.

MTCC revealed that the shore protection project initiated by the government on the island, has provided a solution for this issue.

In addition to this, MTCC revealed that the project will solve the long-standing problems and hardships of the island community, as well as bring joy to the people in many ways.

Since its inception in 1980 at an important stage in the country’s development journey, MTCC has carried out numerous development projects across the country.

The company has played a significant role in the infrastructural development and social infrastructural development in the country for the last 42 years.
