The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confirmed that the remains discovered after the fire that broke out at an accommodation block in K. Gulhi Falhu on 16 December 2022, belongs to the worker reported missing after the incident.

The police institution has confirmed that the discovered body parts belong to the missing worker.

Earlier this week, the body was sent to India to be handed over to the family.

The fire broke out in Gulhi Falhu, where employees of India's Afcons company, working on the Thilamalé bridge, were staying.

In the initial statement released in connection with the fire incident, Afcons revealed that all of the employees in the accommodation block had been rescued.

However, after going through the list of people who were residing there, Afcons reported to the Police and Defence Force that one worker was missing.
