Meral’s record time for the 100-meter butterfly stroke was 1:20.8

The national record for the 100-meter butterfly stroke was broken by Meral Latheef during the Islamic solidarity games.

The previous record for the butterfly stroke in 2004 was set in the South Asian games, the record was 01:21.8. The record was set by Aishath Sausan.

The fifth Islamic Solidarity games held in Konya, Turkey. In the games the national record for the 100-meter butterfly stroke record was shattered by Meral on Tuesday. The new record time is 1:20.8.

Other highlights from Tuesday include, Ali Imaan competed in the male 50-meter backstroke event. Imaan competing in the 4th heat of the event finished in 29.92 seconds. Dhaain Ahmed Shageef competed in the 100-meter freestyle event. Dhain’s time was 1:01.95 seconds.

In the female 100-meter butterfly event’s 1st heat Hanaan Hussain Haleem finished in 1:30.69 seconds. Moreover, in the 50-meter backstroke event’s 1st heat Fathimath Zuha Ziyadh competed and her timing was 41.33 seconds. In the 2nd heat however, Zainab Abdullah Shafeeg’s timing was 39.14 seconds.

The Maldives competed in the 100-meter freestyle relay. The swimmers were Shaaig, Meral, Zainab and Een Abbas Shareef. In this event Maldives was in last place. The time elapsed was 5:04.08 seconds. With 3:52.21 seconds Turkey won the relay event.
