The government remains committed to ensure basic healthcare is accessible to all citizens across the island nation, says Vice President Faisal Naseem.

The vice president said this while speaking at the official ceremony held to commemorate the World Health Day 2022, at Ghiyasuddin International School on Friday evening.

As such, he noted that maintaining a good health is one of the greatest blessings by Allah.

Shedding light on the government’s commitment to ensure basic healthcare is accessible to all, the vice president went on to highlight the government’s ongoing efforts to establish tertiary-level hospitals in five regions across Maldives.

VP Naseem shed light on the significance of training healthcare professionals to meet the needs of the new hospitals and other healthcare facilities.

Going on to state that a healthy living environment is vital to maintain a meaningful good health, VP Naseem talked about the administration's efforts to promote environmental sustainability.

With this being said, the vice president shed light on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's international advocacy on environment protection.

The ceremony also saw VP Naseem shedding light on President Solih’s remarks at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and the most recent Conference of Parties (COP) summit, where he urged world leaders to commit to climate goals.

Further, the Green Smart Island Project was also inaugurated at the ceremony.

The commitment regarding the Green Smart Island Project was signed by representatives of local councils.

Aminath Shauna, Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology also inaugurated the Climate Smart Hospital Policy Strategy at the ceremony, with Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali inaugurating the Inter-School Art and Short Story Writing Competition.

Cabinet Ministers and senior officials of the government were also in attendance.
