A hearing on the case of the murder of Taxi driver Gasim Hassan was held on Sunday, where the statement of an additional eyewitness was taken.
Sunday's hearing saw the state prosecutors presenting an eyewitness on the case. As such, a Bangladeshi national, Shariful Islam took part in the hearing online, and gave his statement.
The state was to present an additional witness in Sunday's hearing. However, they were not able to present the eyewitness and asked the judge for a second chance for the presentation.
The judge urged the prosecutors to heed to the dates given by the to court present their witnesses.
A hearing of this case was held on March 20, 2022 as well. The state prosecutors presented three eyewitness statements during the hearing.
Gasim Hassan's body was found and reported to the Police at 9:27PM on December 4, 2019.
Maldives Police Service has revealed that Adham Mohamed from Lh. Hinnavaru, Boduhiyaage, has a record pertaining to illegal substances, robbery, and gang violence, among other criminal activities. Further, Police said that even on the day of Gasim Hassan's murder, Adham had attempted to rob someone to procure funds with which to buy illegal substances and fulfil other needs.
In the very first hearing held in the case, Adham confessed to having murdered Gasim Hassan in court and plead guilty for the charges pressed against him. However, he later retracted his confession at a preliminary hearing for the case held on 18 February 2020, and plead not guilty for the murder charges.
