A suspicious package was delivered to the Ministry of Tourism on Sunday.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)'s bomb squad was dispatched to scene to examine the package sent to the institution.

MNDF has since confirmed that the package posed no threats.

While MNDF did not reveal any further details except the case has been handed over to police, it urged all to refrain from accepting unknown packages.

Maldives’ national security threat level was raised to its highest rating of three, following the May 6 bomb attack targeting Speaker and former President Mohamed Nasheed. As such, the bomb squad examined suspicious objects found near the Supreme Court as well as one found inside a mosque in Rahdhebai Magu recently. However, they turned out to be false alarms.

Further, two suspects were arrested back in July after claiming to be in possession of an explosive near the presidential palace. Both have been released from custody following expiration of remand, as the prosecutor general’s office had decided against pressing charges.
