Badminton Asia's Main Office has been stationed in Malaysia for 62 years

Maldives is set to host the Main Office of Badminton Asia, one of the world's largest and most influential regional badminton syndicates.

Badminton Asia's Main Office will be moved to the Maldives after being stationed in Malaysia for 62 years since its inception in 1959. This will be the biggest sports administration to be established in the county's history.

Moosa Nashid, President of the Badminton Association of Maldives, currently holds the office of Secretary General at Badminton Asia. This is the highest office held by a Maldivian in the international arena for competitive sport. Badminton Asia designated Maldives as the next host for their Main Office in a Steering Committee meeting held on 16 December 2020, after considering proposals from other influential nations in the region, including Dubai, Singapore, China, India and Bahrain. Singapore competed neck-and-neck with Maldives in attempting to acquire host rights for Badminton Asia's Main Office before it was assigned to the Maldives.

Speaking on Raajje Tv's "Kulhivaru File" program, Secretary General of Badminton Asia Moosa Nashid said that all legal prerequisites needed to transfer Badminton Asia's Main Office to Maldives had been attended to, and that the office would be stationed in the administrative building of Henveiru Statdium. He added that work to establish the office would be complete in two months, at which point it would begin operations.

Nashid further detailed that employees currently working in Malaysia for Badminton Asia would be moving to Maldives once the office transfer was complete, and that an influx of revenue would be observed for the banking sector once major operations of the office begin. Additionally, henoted that while the office was being moved, some technical aspects of such as training coaches and operations of investors and technical officials would continue in Malaysia as it is a located in Central Asia.

Nashid also revealed that a branch of the International Badminton Academy will also be established in the Maldives once Badminton Asia's Main Office was successfully relocated to the Maldives.
