The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has opened up the opportunity for vessel operators to rent them out.
The state-owned company would charter vessels for their ferry service, so they must be able to carry passengers and meet the criteria set out by the MTCC.
The vessels will have to register with a registered company from which MTCC already charters vessels.
The MTCC’s circular said that the vessel operators would have to cover the cost of service and take responsibility for damages and passenger safety.
The chartering process is done through a bid where operators that offer the cheapest price will be selected.
