The 34th session of the INFOFISH Governing Council has been launched in the Maldives on Monday.
While inaugurating the meeting held at Champa Central Hotel, Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture, Zaha Waheed stated that hosting and co-chairing the meeting is an honor to the Maldives.
The minister further stated that the meeting will focus on key issues facing member states and finding an adequate resolution for them, in addition to further avenues for collaboration between members.
The 34th session of the INFOFISH Governing Council will continue until Thursday, with a total of seven out of thirteen member states participating.
Founded in 1981, INFOFISH is an intergovernmental organization established to share marketing information and technical advisory services for fisheries products in the Asian and Pacific region.
The organization is a project of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. Hence, representatives of FAO and two international observers will also be in attendance at this year's meeting.
INFOFISH is responsible for the World Tuna Trade Conference and Exhibition, which is the largest event dedicated to the tuna industry.
