The government companies have generated MVR 1.4 billion in dividends according to the statistics released by the Ministry of Finance.
The ministry previously anticipated the state to generate MVR 874 million in dividends. However, a 61% increase was seen instead.
According to the financial estimates for the first six months of the year, public companies had total revenue of MVR 7.29 billion. This includes over 2 million in revenue by State Trading Organisation (STO) and over a billion in revenue by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
The government amended regulations on dividends during the past year. Likewise, this includes a regulation that companies can only provide bonuses to employees after paying off the dividend.
