The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has established a national team fund.
This was announced at a ceremony held at Paradise Island Resort, by FAM's national team committee chairman, Tourim Minister Ali Waheed.
Waheed stated that the decision to form a fund was taken at the first national team committee meeting on Friday, and that the fund has since been created.
He further highlighted the national team's current need for sponsors and encouraged businesses to provide financial assistance to the team. He guaranteed that the national football teams' performance would be a worthy return to their investments.
During the ceremony, Waheed assured that the national football team would improve their discipline. Hence, Waheed has stated that the team will no longer be allowed to smoke cigarettes, as smoking can affect a player’s performance despite any talent they might have.
Ali Waheed, former national football team manager, claimed that the team is fighting a battle in every match they play and that this mindset can apply to any sport.
Long-term and short-term plans organized for the national football team were also announced at the ceremony.
