Water usage rises in Male’ City

Water usage in capital Male’ City has risen, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The statistics were based on data from Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC).

Statistics show that tap water usage has increased in Male’ by 46% in the last nine years.

Households and businesses used 24,965 metric tons of water in 2010 and used 36,522 metric tons in 2018, which is a 46% increase.

However, 35,117 metric tons were used in 2017, which is a four percent increase compared to 2018.

In 2010, businesses used 2,027 metric tons of water and in 2018 used 4,105 metric tons.

Usage of water by households alone has also increased. Statistics show that households used 22,389 metric tons in 2010 and 31,773 metric tons in 2018.
