Parties that failed to submit their audit report have been fined MVR 50,000.

Elections Commission (EC) stated that these parties are Adhaalath Party and Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP).

The four parties with over 10,000 members that submitted their audit reports are Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Jumhooree Party (JP), Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

According to the Political Party Act, the state is required to provide funds to parties with 10,000 members but only after they submit their audit and yearly reports for the previous year.

EC has issued a fine of MVR 20,000 to PPM and MVR 5,000 to the party’s head of finance for illegal expenditure.

EC has decided to provide this year’s funds to all parties that submitted their reports, except PPM. EC stated that it will provide PPM’s funds after it makes some amendments to its report. PPM has since re-submitted its report after making the changes.
