A police officer was injured while responding to a public disturbance in capital Male’ City on Wednesday afternoon.

The police service stated that the officer was injured while attempting to control a commotion between a Maldivian and an expatriate at the local market.

The two have been taken into custody for attempting to assault the traffic police officers trying to stop them, the police stated, adding that the Maldivian was bleeding from the mouth after the incident.

The Maldivian is 46-year-old man and the expatriate is 24 years old.
