51kg of drugs have been found on the recently captured Iranian boat.

The boat was captured trespassing in Maldivian waters near Baa atoll on Monday night.

Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Riyaz said they are still searching the boat and have so far found 51kg of drugs hidden inside the compartments by a layer of fiber.

Riyaz said that the court has issued a 15-day remand on the seven crewmen onboard and that the boat has been taken to Male’.

Home Minister Imran Abdulla and senior officials of the police service and the coast guard have observed the ongoing search inside the boat.

There have been earlier incidents of Iranian boats being caught smuggling drugs into Maldives.
