The Maldives Police Service has apprehended two suspects in their investigation into the disappearance of a crew member of the vessel, ‘Kurimagu 1’.

The crew member, native to Bangladeshi, was reported missing before the vessel left Lhaimagu of Shaviyani atoll for capital city Malé.

RaajjeMV understands that the two suspects are aged 30 and 36, and are also Bangladeshi; they have been apprehended for questioning.

The Maldives Police Service has told the press that their officers searched the vessel upon docking in Malé and questioned its crew.

Boat captain Ali Shareef says ‘Luthufaar’ has been missing since the 22nd of April, and his disappearance was reported at about 12:15pm that day.

Shareef said that the man has worked on the boat for just about a ‘month or thereabouts’ and that he is provided accommodation on the vessel itself.

The captain said that he and his crew decided to leave Lhaimagu, having ‘assumed’ that he may still be on the island.

Upon Shareef’s request the island’s local government council and the police had searched for the man, to no avail.
