Victory SC has proposed to include a motion to dismiss the current executive body of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) at Monday’s ordinary congress.
The FAM ordinary congress is held each year for member clubs to vote on motions put forth by the executive committee.
For Monday’s ordinary congress, Victory SC has proposed to include motions to dismiss members of the executive committee and FAM President Bassam Adeel Jaleel, and establish a normalization committee with no more than three members and task them with amending the FAM regulations and holding an election to appoint a new FAM president and executive committee.
Victory stated that while FAM has told them that the motions are against regulations, FIFA has guaranteed that they will be placed in the agenda.
Victory earlier gained signatures from 12 clubs to hold an extraordinary congress to vote on a no-confidence motion against the FAM leadership, but FAM denied their request. Afterwards, Victory attempted to hold an extraordinary congress organized by the clubs but failed after a delegation from FIFA and AFC convinced three clubs to withdraw their support.
RaajjeMV understands that the clubs that withdrew their signatures were Maziya Sports & Recreations, United Victory, and Club Green Street.
On Sunday, FAM stated that clubs were given 35 days before the ordinary congress to propose motions, but that no club had made any request.
However, Victory stated that FAM failed to inform the clubs of the place and time for the congress 45 days before holding it, but that Victory sent their proposed motions on February 10, within the required time frame.
