Foreign minister Abdulla Shahid has arrived in Washington, DC, to meet with senior officials of the United States government.
In a tweet on Tuesday, minister Shahid said he will be holding discussions with officials of the US Treasury, the State Department, and USAID.
He also said that he will be meeting with members of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) to give a talk on Indian Ocean security.

I will b visiting @CSIS to give a talk on the Indian Ocean security
Minister Shahid is on an official visit to the United States and to the United Kingdom.
The Foreign Ministry stated that, after his trip to Washington, he will travel to New York to deliver a statement on behalf of the Maldives at the United Nations Security Council Open-Debate on the topic of “Addressing the impacts of climate-related disasters on international peace and security”.
Afterwards, he will head to the UK and then to the United Arab Emirates as a follow-up to the recent visit to the country by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
