Home Minister Imran Abdulla’s flat was given to him by his father-in-law, says religious scholar Dr. Mohamed Iyaz.
The Minister’s publicized financial statement shows that he owns a flat worth MVR 2.5 million, purchased from Amin Avenue.
Ahmed ‘Shumba Gong’ Ashraf, a member of the newly formed party MTD, asked on Twitter how Minister Imran could have purchased the flat when he had never previously held a job.
Responding to the tweet, Dr. Iyaz said that the father of Imran’s wife, Mariyam Reem, had bought flats for each of his children and that an investigation from the Anti-Corruption Commission can confirm this.

MTD activists have been heavily critical of Minister Imran ever since party leader, former vice president Ahmed Adeeb, was returned to prison from house arrest.
