Former President Abdulla Yameen should immediately be prosecuted for his ‘corruption’ and the discord he caused, west-Maafannu constituency MP Mohamed Falaah has said.
Falaah said this in an interview with RaajjeTV on Monday night, adding that charges against the former president should have been brought after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih assumed office in late November.
The parliamentarian reiterated existing accusations of embezzlement through state-run enterprises and said Yameen had ‘robbed the treasury’. MP Falaah said that this is ‘something everyone knows’.
Falaah, who is aligned with a party in the current government coalition, said that while action needs to be taken immediately, the government will ensure that those responsible for lost funds are held accountable.
“It is time to prosecute Yameen, in fact it seems too late as well, 36 days have passed. But the government will ensure that they are held accountable and this work will go ahead fast”, MP Falaah said.
Falaah said that the government will be working to expedite the bill to empower presidential inquiry commissions so as to ensure that lost funds are recovered.
