President Abdulla Yameen has lashed out at opposition leaders at a campaign event in N. Velidhoo.
At the event, President Yameen criticized his first vice president Dr. Mohamed Jameel, his former ministers Abdulla Ameen and Mohamed Maleeh, and Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim.
President Yameen said that Qasim and Jameel had been arrested in former President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration and that even if Qasim has forgotten it and tries to come to power, he does not fit the criteria for government leadership, and not just due to his age.
President Yameen said that former vice president Jameel has also been arrested numerous times and that he has always been ridiculed by the public.
He added that former ministers Ameen and Maleeh had once come out with ‘colored charts’ to create public outcry over the controversies in Nasheed’s government and that Nasheed’s Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) should ask where those charts are now and whether they can truly switch loyalties to the opposition.
Also in his speech, President Yameen said that ‘selling’ the main airport was the worst act of wrongdoing that MDP’s government was involved in.
