Elections Commission (EC)’s procedure in holding the 23rd September presidential election will be the same as in previous elections, says chief Ahmed Shareef.
At a press conference on Sunday, EC President Shareef repeatedly said that votes will be counted with monitors and observers present and that the results will be pasted at the polling stations.
He also said that the EC will not be notified of the results and, when looking into previous elections, they will probably receive the results only after the media report on it.
Addressing public concerns over the use of tablets at polling stations, Shareef said that it will only be a replacement for the laptops they have used in previous elections and that they made the change due to its convenience. He added that the tablets will only contain the voters list and no other application.
Shareef also repeatedly said that the EC will not commit electoral fraud but that there were numerous attempts at fraud in the applications for re-registration and for observations. He added that the cases will be submitted to the relevant authorities after the complaints bureau completes its investigation.
