The ‘unity government’ that the Joint Opposition has pledged to form will guarantee development for all islands in the Maldives without exception, former Tourism Minister Abdulla Mausoom has said.

The former minister said this while speaking to Raajje Television on Sunday night, asserting that ‘no island, no citizen’ will be isolated.

Mausoom said that the Joint Opposition is built upon the principle of working together despite differences, and that this extends to their treatment of the Maldivian people.

He said that the Joint Opposition will treat citizens with equality, no matter what their social standing is or what their political allegiances are.

In regards to the pledge of establishing a coalition-led government, Mausoom said that parties in the Joint Opposition agree with the Maldivian Democratic Party’s manifesto for ‘blue economy’ development.

Moreover, Mausoom said that the Jumhooree Party will give exceptional attention to developing tourism and fishing industries, two of the more lucrative industries in the Maldivian economy.
