The Elections Commission (EC) has once again opened the opportunity for people to apply for the positions of official to be stationed at polling stations in September’s presidential election.

EC re-posted their job offer in the government gazette on Thursday after their initial publication on June 29 received a low number of applications.

Application forms can be taken from island councils, the EC office, and the commission’s website.

Applicants need to be above 18 years of age, not a member of any political party, not an official of any candidate’s presidential campaign, have the necessary educational credentials to do the work of an EC official, and not be serving a sentence for a criminal conviction.

Applicants are also required to complete a training programme in September.

262,141 Maldivians are eligible to vote in the presidential election on September 23. Voters are open to re-register until August 11.

Those contesting the election will be allowed to apply for candidacy from July 23 to August 4. The EC is required to approve candidates within two days after they hand over their application.
