Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that completing the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge before the deadline does not mean that its taking too long.
Replying to criticism regarding the length of the project in a tweet on Tuesday, Dr. Muizzu said that the deadline for the bridge is September 25 but that the contractor has vowed to complete the bridge by July 26.

In an earlier tweet in June 21, he said that work is currently being done to connect the main two sections of the bridge and that all the sections will be connected by July 9.

Around 1,000 workers are involved in the bridge, which is set to cost USD 200 million. China has given USD 116 million in free aid and USD 72 million in loans for the project.
