No chance for electoral fraud if opposition works together: MDP Chair

There would be no chance for electoral fraud if the opposition coalition parties work together to win by a huge margin in September’s presidential polls, says Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson Hassan Latheef.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of MDP’s congress in AA. Ukulhas on Saturday, Latheef said that MDP members have shown that they aren’t subservient to the government.

Latheef said the government has been trying to intimidate MDP by obstructing every one of their activities, including refusing to give the finances owed to the party within the three-month deadline or provide any venue for the party congress in capital city Male’.

He also noted that authorities had been hindering their presidential campaign, even tearing out their posters, but that MDP remains steadfast in holding peaceful and civil activities.

He said that the level of oppression and corruption has become unbearable and that President Abdulla Yameen needs to be defeated, which he said can only be done with the work of citizens, independent organizations, and state officials.

Latheef also said that President Yameen will win by a huge margin in the election, making it impossible to conduct any electoral fraud.
