Male’ City’s Deputy Mayor Shamau Shareef has said that the capital needs a re-development plan.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s Khabaru Feethaa programme, Shamau said that the Male’ City Council had been drafting a lasting re-development plan before being restricted from doing their work.
Shamau said that, through a survey they conducted at the time, the Council learned that 60 percent of people living in Male’ walk to places but only 3 percent of roads were for walking. Due to this the Council worked on giving pedestrians more walking space.
However, he said that the past seven years have seen major changes and that although now we have walking space there is now less space to drive, meaning that there is now a need for a re-development plan.
