Islamic Ministry sets deadline for paying zakat in the form of food
The ministry will be accepting zakat in the form of food until Wednesday

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has set the deadline for accepting zakat-al-fitr in the form of food products. 

The ministry said in an announcement on Monday that it will be accepting zakat in the form of food until Wednesday.

The rate for paying zakat in this form is 2.4 kilograms of any food or grain used by the household. The ministry will be accepting payment at the hall of a school in capital city Malé.

Payment will be accepted at the Arabiyya School at these times; 10:30am to 12:00pm, 01:00pm to 2:30pm, 08:30pm to 10:30pm.

Traditionally, zakat was payed in food items and is measured per each member of a household. The ministry has been accepting cash equivalents and will continue to do so.
