US Ambassador Atul Keshap met with members of the opposition coalition parties on Tuesday.
The meeting took place at the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) office.
Senior members of MDP, Jumhoree Party (JP), and Adhaalath Party joined the meeting.
After the meeting at the MDP office, Ambassador Keshap visited the JP office to meet some MPs that were removed from their seats by the Elections Commission.
The Ambassador’s term is set to expire this year. He will be replaced by the current US Ambassador to Nepal, Alaina Teplitz.
MDP tweeted that the US Ambassador was briefed on the current political situation and that the Joint Opposition highlighted the importance of international pressure to free political prisoners and to ensure free, fair, and inclusive elections.
