Police officers do not need a warrant to enter premises for a criminal investigation if they are granted permission, says the High Court.

The Court made the statement on Thursday while ruling on an appeal to nullify the GDh. Thinadhoo Magistrate Court’s decision to extend a remand.

The appeal was made on the basis that police officers entered a Thinadhoo guesthouse without a warrant to arrest a suspect on allegations of sexual abuse of a minor.

The High Court stated that officers were allowed into guesthouse by its owner and that a warrant is not necessary to enter the premises in such cases.

Therefore, the High Court refused to appeal the remand extension.
